AMECHI X KWAMENA BOISON + THE REVIVAL

With the launch of our Asafo collection, we are delighted to announce a limited edition collection of handmade Asafo flags. Featuring wall hangings and cushions, crafted in Ghana by traditional artisans in collaboration with Kwamena Boison, co-founder and head of design at The Revival.

The Revival are a community led organisation creating awareness, art and jobs with global textile waste coming to Ghana.

Kwamena comes from a long lineage of flag makers and working with artisans who are of families known for flag making to create his contemporary pieces forms an important part of his work, as he aims to preserve this treasured legacy amidst changing times, through advocacy and storytelling.

Our collection embodies this mission. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with proceeds directly supporting the artisans, many of whom are farmers, carpenters masons, just to name a few, thereby empowering the
community that sustains the craft.

The Artisans

Isaac & Mary

Isaac and Mary are a young couple living in Kormantse, a town in the Central region of Ghana. Isaac is deeply passionate about preserving the heritage of flag making, a craft passed down through generations from his grandfather and father. While he is committed to keeping this family legacy alive, the practice has not been financially sustainable enough to support him, his partner Mary, and their three daughters.

As a result, Isaac is often forced to take on additional work to make ends meet. Mary, recognizing the importance of the craft, has learned stitching skills from Isaac and now assists him, particularly during festive seasons when the demand for flags spikes. Together, they strive to uphold this important cultural tradition, despite the challenges they face.
